Last month I discussed our Career Opportunities Center and the array of services that are provided for businesses and job seekers. This week I am following up with information about a series of job fairs being held March 18-21 at Career Opportunities.

The week’s activity is called GET A JOB WEEK. Very subtle, huh?

Some of you may recall that last year we conducted a virtual job fair that lasted a week with about 35 employers participating. This year we are moving away from the virtual/Internet activity to conduct a more traditional series of job fairs.

The job fairs will each feature a specific sector of the economy so that jobseekers can focus on appropriate employment opportunities. The activities are free to job seekers.

Tuesday: Human Services & Home Health Care

Wednesday: Financial Industry

If you are interested in one or more of these positions and consider yourself qualified, contact the Business Services Representative listed for an appointment for a pre-screening. Qualified means you have the experience and/or education required for the position.

If it is determined that you are a qualified candidate for the position, you will be invited to participate in the private speed interview session

Members can also get a free resume Critique (by appointment only).

You must attach your current resume to an e-mail addressed to (Subject: resume critique)

In the e-mail you must include your membership ID number, contact information, and the job fair you plan on attending, i.e. Trades, Human Services, etc. and the date of that job fair.

Please note: resume critique appointments will only be made for job seekers attending a specific job fair. In other words, if you plan to attend the Human Services /Home Health Care Job Fair, then you can only have your resume critiqued on the day of that job fair, which would be Tuesday, March 19, and no other day. Appointments will be made on a first-come, first-served basis.

Once your information is received you will be e-mailed an appointment time for your resume critique; and will be asked to confirm that you will be able to come at that time. If you do not confirm within 24 hours of notification, we have the right to give your appointment time away.

Please bring your resume to the Career Center on a flash drive. Computers will be available should you need to retype your critiqued resume with suggested revisions and/or need to print out your revised resumes to use during the job fair.

Free assistance with on-line job applications will be available at Career Opportunities the week of the job fairs (Only chronological resumes should be used with on-line job applications)

Here is the information for businesses that want to participate:

Register and provide us with your available positions by February 18, 2013 to participate in a “private speed interviewing session” with candidates who have been pre-screened to meet your qualifications. Participating employers will interview each qualified candidate for 5 minutes during this session. This session will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.; the job fair will be open to the public from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Provided there is still available space, employers who register after February 18th can still participate in the segment of the Job Fair that will be open to the public from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Complimentary lunch will be provided. Job Fairs will be advertised on radio, in print, and social media. The cost is $49 for members of Career Opportunities
